The Whicher Ridge Wines wine sensory garden is a totally unique winery experience, being the only one of it’s kind in Australia, and is the centre piece of their winery experiences. The garden was designed and planted in 2014, by Cathy and Neil, and is designed in an infinity (figure 8) pattern, with sections devoted to 7 different grape varieties. The Garden is enclosed by tall hedges and covers an area of just over 1000 square metres.

‘Hamelin Bay’, is a must-do on many a holiday schedule, offering a vast expanse of bright white sand, turquoise waters filled with marine life, and spectacular coastal cliff walks. And if the bay is sheltered it's also possible that you will spot a stingray, as they often swim close to the shoreline. (weather dependent)

This is only available on a private appointment basis, and the wines are enjoyed with charcuterie and cheeses off the back of a ute!

One of my favourite small batch wine producers, Mr BARVAL', at a stunning location in Margaret River, and with wines that are not aimed at the in-vogue ‘natural wine’ sector, but as a true expression of the unique and remarkable Margaret River terroir and produced by very traditional and classical wine making methods.

Established in 2003 by owner/winemaker Brad Wehr, the labels and wine styles have continued to grow, covering traditional Margaret River varietals through to some eclectic and unusual grape varieties and winemaking methods. The 'Amato Vino' label is the vehicle for their alternative (or emerging) varieties, micro-batches and ‘lo-fi’ and experimental winemaking styles.

The ‘Glenarty Road’ ‘Wild Wine & Farm Food’ experience offers an in-depth flight style tasting of 6 wines, curated to match the season and your personal drinking preferences with a spread of freshly baked bread, house-made cheese, farm snacks and charcuterie.

The amphora is back. The ancient way of making and storing wine in clay amphora, like the Greeks and the Romans did and like AMATO VINO are doing in this image. Although the number of amphorae users is quite low they are very much talked about and often belong to the natural wine movement.

The Western grey kangaroo is one of the biggest and most abundant of kangaroos, and can be told apart from its close relative, the Eastern grey kangaroo by the browner fur, darker color of the head, long dark ears which are almost hairless on the backs, and in some of them, a blackish patch at the elbow. The male is much bigger than the female, and has longer and more muscular forearms and shoulders, heavier claws on its forepaws, and thicker skin over its belly, which helps in absorbing the impact of kicks when fighting. The adult male has a strong, curry-like smell, which has given it the common name ‘stinker’. This photo is of a 'boomer' and was taken at the Margaret River Golf Club.

'South by South West' was created by Mijan Patterson and Livia Maiorana, or as most people know us – Mij & Liv. They have a passion for wine (that’s obvious), a desire for adventure (that is how they ended up here), and a constant drive for creativity and expression (hence the small batch thing).

Since establishing Blind Corner in 2005, Ben Gould has made his wines on a strictly ‘needs must’ basis. As a result, the wines of Blind Corner are exceptionally interesting, and could easily fit under the loosely defined ‘natural wine’ umbrella. The wines of Blind Corner could be misinterpreted as highly experimental, and inventive, when in actual fact, they not only speak of place but are true to its origins.

A basket press has a ring of vertical staves with gaps between. When pressure is applied, either manually or more commonly in wineries via hydraulics, the pressed juice escapes and is captured in a tray. Grapes are loaded in the top. The sight of these enormous trees won’t be the only thing to amaze you. This forest is a feast for the senses with the forest floor tumbling with wildflowers, orchids and funghi (in season) together with the sounds of native birds and the fresh smell of eucalypt.
